Arabia Finland Valencia is one of the product lines from Arabia of Finland. This is an exceptionally beautiful series of tableware that was designed by Ulla Procopé. This set was introduced before 1970s, and discontinued in December 2002.
The designer used only shades of two colors, i.e., white, and midnight blue, to create the dramatic effect in this blue crockery. This crockery is actually stoneware. Artists were employed by Arabia Finland to paint each piece by hand, before glazing the pieces. The patterns are highly detailed geometrical shapes like the ornate patterns in ancient Roman and Greek structures. Blue dominates the white several times over.
Arabia Finland Valencia dinnerware includes cups and saucers of different sizes, creamers, covered and coverless sugar bowls, covered jars for jams, plates for butter and bread, salad plates, dinner plates, soup bowls, trays, center platters, footed center pieces with handles, tureens of different sizes with covers, square and round shaped cheese boards, bowls with foot and handles, serving bowls without foot, lid, or handles, tall and short egg cups, serving boards, mugs, and different types of candle sticks. Most of the bowls were white inside.
Arabia Finland Valencia china was very popular product. But the company discontinued some of the pieces such as candleholders, covered sugar bowls, and ornate cutting boards around the later part of 1980s. At present, there are some crockery dealers who offer replacements of Arabia Finland Valencia pottery pieces. Such pieces can be ordered to replace any broken or chipped pieces in existing crockery sets. There are auctions on websites such as eBay, where any of the bowls, cups, saucers, plates, etc., from this set can be bought without purchasing the complete set. Because the company no longer produces this set, collectors have developed a greater interest in it, and are competing in bidding with those who need these pieces to replace the broken, or chipped ones. Any replacements, therefore, will only be available till the stocks of these beautiful pieces last.
